International Dot Day

Dot Day SkypeDot Day2DotWeekBooks

We celebrated International Dot Day with some great books and awesome experiences.  We connected with other campuses through Skype on Tuesday, and celebrated in other classes throughout the week with the app Quiver and by creating collaborative Dots.  It’s been a great week so far, and we look forward to making our marks this year in the library.

Tiny Tap Training

To help students navigate our new LS2 circulation system by The Library Cooperation (TLC), I created a Tiny Tap game to highlight some of our trouble areas and to introduce some technology vocabulary.  Students are playing the game this week and putting their knowledge into practice during check out.  It’s the 3rd week of school, and circulation is running more smoothly everyday.  With the big automation system change and technology refresh, it’s been an exciting start to the school year and a great opportunity for me to model how we deal with failure, problem solve, adapt, and revise our processes.  We are all learning new things this year!

Fresh Start and Fresh Paint

I’m starting the 2015 school year with a few library upgrades; we are getting to a new automation system (LS2), new Chromebooks, and some great soft seating furniture as well.  Change is good!  I can’t wait to start painting soon too; stay tuned for a look into our library make-over.

Now it’s Back to School season, and I’m hoping to use this cute book by Kate Messner to ring in the school year:

And of course we are all looking forward to the sequel of The Day the Crayons Quit:

And this book by Richard Brynne will make a fun companion to our annual reading of The Book that Eats People by John Perry.

To get my students up and exploring the library, I’m excited to try out a digital photo scavenger hunt using the app Klikaklu.  Now I just need to get my library ready for the camera!
