Readers’ Interest Survey

Readers Interest Form

My 5th grade students are visiting the library today, and as we go over procedures and check out books for the first time, I am also asking my students to fill out a Readers’ Interest Survey in Google Forms.  I am excited to look at this student input in such an easily usable format.  Next week, I’ll survey my 3rd and 4th grade students, and may try to create a modified form for my younger grades as well.  I am so excited to be able to use these results in providing recommendations to students and in developing our library collection.

Throwback Thursday

I checked out a lot of these today in the library, but I’m glad to have this old version in my personal collection.  I love to tell the kids about how I used to read Bone when it appeared in short comics at the back of Disney Adventures, a magazine that doesn’t even exist anymore.  We now have our small collection of magazines ready for check out in our library too; just goes to show, that those students reading comic books and magazines may one day grow up to be librarians.

#Shelfies

This week as students and teachers visit the library for the first time this year, we have been taking a few Shelfies of kids and their book selections.  It’s my new favorite window in the library!  I’ve been using my Instax camera to take students’ pictures; what’s old is new again!  They are amazed by a film camera!

Fresh Start and Fresh Paint

I’m starting the 2015 school year with a few library upgrades; we are getting to a new automation system (LS2), new Chromebooks, and some great soft seating furniture as well.  Change is good!  I can’t wait to start painting soon too; stay tuned for a look into our library make-over.

Now it’s Back to School season, and I’m hoping to use this cute book by Kate Messner to ring in the school year:

And of course we are all looking forward to the sequel of The Day the Crayons Quit:

And this book by Richard Brynne will make a fun companion to our annual reading of The Book that Eats People by John Perry.

To get my students up and exploring the library, I’m excited to try out a digital photo scavenger hunt using the app Klikaklu.  Now I just need to get my library ready for the camera!
